Archangel Michael and St. Misael Coptic Orthodox Church
A Vision for Future Generations
As Raleigh’s Coptic Orthodox community grew, leaders envisioned an additional church and service center for worship, education, youth ministry, and community programs. Rooted in St. Mary’s legacy, the project aimed to preserve Orthodox tradition while serving future generations.
The new campus was designed as a spiritual home where children could learn, youth could deepen their faith, families could find fellowship, and the community could worship, learn, and serve together.
The church combined nearby properties to create a campus of more than four acres. In 2015 and 2016, homes were removed and the land was cleared, graded, and prepared for the church, service building, and expanded parking.
The construction contract was signed on June 8, 2016.
On September 14, 2016, Bishop Peter
and Fr. Misaeil laid the foundation stone for the Youth Services Building and the Church of Archangel Michael and St. Misael the Anchorite.
As structural and interior work advanced, a tunnel connected the new building to St. Mary, physically linking the community’s history with its future mission.
In 2017, handcrafted pews, icons, altar components, and an iconostasis arrived from Egypt. Egyptian craftsmen installed the iconostasis and sacred artwork in January 2018.
Archangel Michael symbolizes God’s protection, strength, and victory, while St. Misael the Anchorite exemplifies faithful service, perseverance, and devotion to Christ.
Today, the church is a center for liturgical life, Christian education, youth ministry, fellowship, and outreach—fulfilling a vision that began with a small group of Orthodox families seeking a place to worship.
